I have been servicing pianos in the Charlotte, NC area since 1987. To date I have performed over fourteen thousand tunings. I have never worked for a dealership so my experience is very diverse. Dealership tuners’ experience is largely limited to brands they sell. I also have avoided the propaganda and ethical quandaries involved in proprietary dealership politics.
The voluntary RPT certification is the only objective standard of competency in Piano Technology in the USA.
Most technicians tune around five to ten pianos a week. I tune 20 -30 pianos a week, gaining three times or more times the experience than the average technician in the same amount of time.
My 21+ years of experience may be the equivalent of 50 years experience for the average technician.

Qualifications
Joseph D. Gotta is a Charlotte native, and has been tuning, maintaining and repairing pianos since 1987. His love of music and ability to play several instruments led to his choosing a profession in this field. He is a graduate of the CPCC piano tuning and repair program.
He became a Registered Piano Technician in 1990. Shortly thereafter, he started his own business, A 440 Piano Service. The A 440 stands for “Standard Pitch”, also known as “Concert”, or “Factory” pitch.
The voluntary RPT certification is the only objective standard of competency in Piano Technology in the USA.
